Benefits
FOR PRODUCER AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The biggest benefit to operating such a site is the ability to harness the flares which are just being burned and are producing no benefit.

This allows us to harness the flare and use it to power our data centers without having to burn additional fossil fuels to generate power.

It is definitely a benefit to the producer and to the environment.

Objective

The goal of the project was to lower the carbon footprint of the oil producer by using their excess gas to run generators that in turn power our Smartboxes™.

Since oil producers have no way to use or monetize gas that is produced during the extraction process, they flare it. Due to the carbon footprint that is used in the flaring process, producers are often capped at how much oil they can pump in a day.

So when we power our generators via their flare, it greatly reduces the environmental impact caused by drilling operations.

Challenges

The key challenges in ND are dealing with extreme environmental concerns such as sub-zero temperatures and blowing snow. We love solving new challenges as it allows us to use it in other locations.

Solutions

Our solution for this project was to use multiple generators to generate 2.5 MW, which we needed to power our data center.

This allowed the energy producer to lower their carbon footprint drastically and thereby almost eliminate their emissions.

Conclusion

Installing a crypto mining facility out on an oil field has its own unique set of challenges.

Some of these are safety regulations that are required by OSHA or by the energy provider.

As well as running a site with such a remote location.
